Michael Larson is a five time All-American for his success in cross-country and track. He holds the Lakeview Spartans home course record in XC. Mike was unbeaten in Dual/Triangular Cross Country meets and was a multiple cross country champion where he also held course and meet records during the Mt. Zion XC Invitational, Decatur Jamboree, and the Macon County XC Champion just to name a few. He qualified for state cross-country and track and field championships, placing fifth in the one-mile run in the 1972 track championships, the first time a Lakeview athlete placed.
After graduation, he ran cross-country and track and field, successfully, at Eastern Illinois University, on a running scholarship. Mike set course records at EIU in XC and school fieldhouse records in the 1-mile, 2-mile, and 3-mile runs in indoor track as well as the school record for the 1-mile and 5,000 meters in outdoor track. And after graduation from EIU, he qualified for the Olympic trials. Larson once ran a 4.04 mile.
